Book Of Sith (Book Review)
The first thing you notice when you take the Book of Sith in your hands is the different chapters standing out, without even needing to open the book. The pages' sides are cut in different ways, giving a special look to each and every chapter. This is a special little gem. It's not a novel or comic, but rather a collection of anekdotes from several dark side affiliates. Palpatine assembled Sorzus Syn, Darth Malgus, Darth Bane, Mother Talzin and Darth Plagueis' works, spanning thousands of years from the Old Republic to the Empire, which Luke then bundled together.
Sorzus Syn's manuscript tells the story of 12 Dark Jedi, exiled by the Jedi Order, taking control of the Sith Empire. He writes about the Sith Purebloods and "lesser" species, weapons, the making of amulets, holocrons, warbeasts, alchemy, incantations, and the creation of the Sith Code. Darth Malgus diaries tell us about the Rim Campaign during the Sith War; his conquests, frustrations with the politicians, various droids and ships, and eventually the Dark Reaper superweapon. All in all this is a very interesting read, whether or not you are familiar with the characters and time-period.
Darth Bane reflects on past mistakes of the Sith Order and leaders, and how he form his own new philosophy: the Rule of Two. His change to the Sith Order is a monumental one, and is a must-read for anyone slightly interested in the history of the Sith. He also talks about combat, lightsaber construction, armor and Dark Side powers. Mother Talzin gives her view on the magical forces of Dantooine and the philosophies of the Nightsisters. Darth Plagueis writes about his quest for the creation of life through midichlorians, experiments, his thoughts on transcending death, the Netherworld and the prophecy of the Chosen One. And finally Darth Sidious talks about his rise to power, the Empire under his rule, and his search for immortality.
To me that's incredibly interesting, but it gets even better; several people who have gotten their hands on these manuscripts over the years have written comments on the side. Yoda, Mace Windu, Quinlan Vos, Sidious, Vader and Ventress all provide their unique insights on what the Sith of old wrote down. And these chapters and comments are all presented in different colors and fonts. Further more there are a great many beautiful illustrations and all these individual parts form a book with incredible character.
