Mark Hamill’s Twin-Sister Leia

In a recent interview with Mark Hamill on Entertainment Tonight, Ash Crossan sat with Mark as he described his emotional feelings towards the scene when Luke finally reunites with Leia just to say goodbye. Both descending from Anakin Skywalker, AKA Darth Vader, the twin siblings were incredibly strong with the force. So strong that Luke had to cut himself off from the force so Leia would be unable to locate him. 

The feelings go much deeper than just the on-film character’s relationship. Luke knew he was saying goodbye forever to his sister, but Mark didn’t know he was saying goodbye to his cast sister, Carrie Fisher. Sadly, Fisher had died in December of 2016 shortly after suffering from a heart attack. 

It was the scene when Luke kissed Leia on the forehead that cut into all of our hearts. Apparently, that scene was never even thought of until the day they started shooting the scene. Mark stood up and decided to kiss Carrie on the forehead. Mark stated to Ash, “But I didn’t decide and say, ‘Can I do this?’ It just happened and I was standing up and they weren’t ready for it. And they said, ‘No do that again!’” It’s amazing how such a natural flowing scene can just be delivered without even needing a director or writer to put it in. The feelings just don’t go film deep, Mark also stated, “To have to lose Carrie was just… its just- I can’t watch that scene.” For fans of the film it was hard to watch that scene knowing that Carrie Fisher had passed away. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how Mark had felt.

The interview goes on to talk about Luke’s reunion with, Master Yoda and the iconic duo, R2-D2 and C-3PO. I don’t know about you, but I know I felt the emotion behind each reunion. Its safe to say though that, Carrie Fisher will live on in all of our hearts. Even in R2’s because even after all of these years, R2 saved that hologram projection of a young desperate princess; “Help me Obi-Wan-Kenobi… You’re my only hope.”
