For The First Time, Colin Trevorrow Opens Up About Leaving 'Star Wars'

  Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was announced as the director for the concluding chapter of the Star Wars saga, Episode IX, in 2015. However, in September of 2017, he left the project, and a Lucasfilm statement claimed that all parties had "mutually chosen to part ways." In a conversation with Empire, Trevorrow finally opened up about his exit from the space fantasy franchise. 

  Among other topics, he discussed having shared his story outline for Episode IX with George Lucas and Mark Hamill; he also described the experience as something he would 'cherish.'

“When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that. Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life”

  As of now, JJ Abrams is at the helm for Episode IX, as he is working on a new script with co-writer Chris Terrio, as well as directing the film itself on a scheduled release of December, 2019 premier. For his  part, Trevorrow has confirmed that he is writing a screenplay for Jurassic World 3 with Emily Carmichael, which he will also direct.
