Original DL-44 Blaster Sells for $550,000
At a Las Vegas auction, held at the Planet Hollywood casino-resort, the iconic blast used by Han Solo, the DL-44, sold for more than 550,000 dollars. According to Julien's Auctions, Ripley's Believe it or Not bought the prop blaster Saturday, making the biggest buy for a sci-fi prop at the Hollywood Legends auction.
An Imperial Scout Trooper Blaster also sold for about 90,000 dollars. The blasters were part of a collection by James L. Schoppe, the US art director. Julien's also says that the full Superman III costume worn by Christopher Reeve sold for over 200,000, well more than its original estimated price. Similarly, a black wool dress worn by Marilyn Monroe went for 50,000 dollars to benefit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.
