Leia Will Return To Episode IX

Leia will be in Episode IX

With the announcement of Episode IX's cast, Lucasfilm confirmed that Leia will be appearing in the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Her appearance has been a very heavy point of discussion since her untimely death more than one and a half years ago. Rumors circulated that she would be recast or that they would use CGI to portray her part but JJ Abrams finally put those rumors to rest:

The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says Abrams. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.” - Fantha Tracks

Her CGI appearance in Rogue One sparked its own little backlash. Even though Carrie Fisher herself commented that she thought they found and improved old footage from 1977, and was astonished by the scene, a lot of fans felt it didn't do her justice. And while others liked it for what it was and did for that film, we wouldn't want her part in an entire movie be done with CGI. So the news that they are going to bring Leia's story to an end with real footage pleases all of us.
