Kathleen Kennedy’s Contract Extended

So word on the street is that Kathleen Kennedy has extended her contract at LucasFilm for three more years. There have been a lot of rumors going around about Kennedy’s future with the company. If The Hollywood Reporter is correct, all of that can be flushed down the toilet.

We know more Star Wars movies are on the way, and that there will be more television shows. It’s nice to know that we will have Kennedy on board as we continue to get more and more Star Wars. Kathleen has been involved in a lot of important projects over the years. She will continue her legacy under the LucasFilm banner.

There have been some comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger which leads one to believe the production of Star Wars movies is changing. His statement all but confirms that Episode IX will be the conclusion to the Skywalker saga.

“Sources tell THR that Episode IX will be the last of the “chapter” installments, with Disney planning on touting it as a selling point in the promotion campaign for the film in the year leading up to its release. Lucasfilm is developing feature projects from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as a potential trilogy from Rian Johnson, the filmmaker behind Last Jedi. Johnson, however, is currently prepping to shoot a detective thriller that is to star Daniel Craig.”

It seems they are going to focus more on television and there upcoming streaming service.

“Sources say that the near future of Star Wars lies in television with Kennedy-led Lucasfilm planning on expanding the universe with new characters in that medium. The shows at this stage include a live-action series run by Jon Favreau (which is currently casting) and the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, both of which will air on Disney’s untitled streaming service, which is set to launch in the second half of 2019. Meanwhile, another animated series, Star Wars Resistance, premieres this month on The Disney Channel.”

The amount of Star Wars to come is immeasurable, all we know is that once Disney releases there streaming service next year the sky will be the limit. We know what to expect with upcoming releases from LucasFilm and Disney. The success of Star Wars under there banner has been immense to say the least. It will help me sleep at night knowing that Kennedy will be there to oversee all of it!
