Durant To The Rescue And What’s To Come This Offseason
After 4 straight trips to the Finals and winning 3 of those trips over the LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers The Warriors find themselves in a peculiar situation down 3-1.
Now this isn't the first time the Warriors have been in this position. In fact if you're rooting for the Warriors you'll find comfort in the fact that the last time they were in this spot in a series they actually ended up winning but as hard as it is to come back from 3-1 it's even harder in The Finals which Ironically was done to them by the Cavaliers in the one championship they didn't win during their 4 year Finals stretch.
Teams are a combined (1-33) when facing a 3-1 deficit in the Finals but is it as daunting of a task as it may seem?
Well to tell you the truth it's a bit complicated and may or may not rely on the health of a certain Superstar.
Ironically enough yet again! The Superstar I'm referring to is the same guy they beat when the Warriors did come back from 3-1 deficit in the WCF's (Western Conference Finals) that guy is Kevin Durant but as the whole sports world knows that 3-1 punch to the gut Kevin Durant and the Thunder took in Oracle Arena sent him to join Steph, Klay, Draymond and company on the Golden St Warriors
Currently suffering a calf injury with no certain return but not being ruled out completely could Durant in fact return and get some 3-1 redemption of his own with the very team that got it on him?
Only time will tell but what a narrative and help it would be if he could return for Game 5 or potentially even Game 6 or 7 if Golden State can manage to hold on that long in these Finals.
Some would argue that Golden State did all of this without him before and they even had the best record of any team in NBA History before Durant came with their 73-9 team a few years back but what most wouldn't realize is in order to get the Superstar that is Kevin Durant they had to give up most of their key role players that kept them afloat when the big guns were out of the game getting a rest like Barbosa, David West, Festuz Ezeli and the Matt Barnes of the world
Either way for the Finals and the Dynasties sake that has become the juggernaut that is the Golden State Warriors we hope to see Durant back out there not only for a more competitive Finals and for someone to match Kawhi Leonard shot for shot but with Durant's Contract up and Free Agency looming next off-season this could very well be the last time we see Durant in a Warriors jersey and even though it might even the playing field a bit say if he went to a New York or maybe even his hometown team of DC with the Wizards I'm not so sure we'll ever see something like this again on a team in terms of firepower.
Cause the Golden State Warriors regardless of KD (Durant) coming back or them potentially losing this series were something to marvel at and we can only hope if Durant does decide to leave after this season they continue to reign supreme with some key offseason aquistions of their own because like it or not The Warriors are good for the NBA cause love them or loathe them they keep us watching.
We can just only hope for one last Hurrah if this is the end but the real question after this Finals will all be asking is...is it?
