Titans - Season 1 Episode 2 (Review)
Titans episode 2 lives up to the hype that started building in episode 1 by introducing two vigilantes in Washington D.C.; Hawk and Dove. Hawk and Dove are lovers that want there home to be safe, but as the Hawk’s injuries are beginning to have permanent effects, they start to wonder when they should retire. The episode opens up with Hawk being interrogated by some gun dealers when Dove swoops in and saves him. Then the show does a quick flashback showing Hawk, Dove, and Robin fighting back to back against some generic thugs. Then it quickly hints at an affair between Robin and Dove.
Most of the drama behind this episode is centered around Robin attempting to find Raven a safe place to lay low, away from the corrupted pursuers. Once Robin reaches Hawk and Dove’s home, Dove fills him in on the current state of Hawk’s injuries. Robin agrees to help them with their last job as vigilantes before they move away from Washington and retire.
Hawk instantly illustrates the fact that he hates Robin by using wordplay and calling him a “Dick”. Throughout the entire episode, I could truly feel the tension between Hawk and Robin. They attack the gun dealers hideout and the team is left in awe at just how savage Robin has become when he takes all of the thugs down in an extremely gruesome way.
Towards the end, Hawk, Dove, Raven, and Robin get jumped by a family of assassins that seem to take no damage. The family beats them and kidnaps Raven, leaving one of the team members clinging to life.
Personally I loved this episode, I feel it definitely improved on the last, even though Starfire and Beast Boy were absent. I have hope for future episodes and even seasons to come for this show.
