StarWars.com Interviews Frodo Baggins, AKA Elijah Wood

Lets just start this article off with I am a hobbit in my own nature. I am a massive Lord of the Rings fan. And I cannot withhold my excitement when I talk about Elijah Wood joining the Star Wars universe! For those of you who do not know, Elijah Wood voices a character called Jace Rucklin in the animated television series; Star Wars: Resistance. 

The 38-year-old actor, is best known for his work in The Lord of the Rings as the hobbit we all know and love, Frodo Baggins. He has also been a part of Happy Feet, the Wilfred television series, and Sin City. 

In Elijah’s interview with StarWars.com, he talks deeply about his character, Jace Rucklin. He states that when the character is brought up in conversation he feels as though everyone speaks as if Rucklin is more on the villainous side than being a good guy. Elijah thinks differently and feels that the character is misunderstood because Rucklin just wants to be better than everybody else with everything he does. Rucklin, also has this ambition to be the best pilot in the universe like similar heroes we know in the galaxy, but Elijah admits the character would “push” people out of the way to gain achievement. 

They move on to talk about Elijah’s fan history with Star Wars. He states that his older brother was a fan and kind of passed it on to him at a young age. I will admit, I got a little salty when he stated that Star Wars is ‘so much more significant’ than Lord of the Rings, but I see where he’s coming from with that statement. Lord of the Rings, as great as it is, didn’t really start a significant fandom base until Ralph Bakshi’s animated film in 1978. Granted, Star Wars A New Hope was released a year earlier in 1977, but in that time period everyone was more focused on futuristic events and films rather than medieval fantasy. 

The Lord of the Rings did have a decent fan base but in that time period if you were to compare it with Star Wars… it’d be like trying to compare the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean; being LOTR is the Gulf and Star Wars the Pacific. Now, with the more recent Lord of the Rings installments, along with The Hobbit Trilogy, I’d say the comparison could be more like the Atlantic to the Pacific. 

StarWars.com’s last question for Elijah was, “Now that Star Wars is sort of back and bigger than ever, what are you looking forward most to in the upcoming years? Other than Resistance Season 2 of course.” Elijah answered with, “Oh my god. That’s pretty exciting. Yeah, I’m excited to see where, IT, goes. Ummmm… Episode IX. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to see how the saga ends.” 

I feel that. We ALL do. It will be very heartbreaking to see this story that we’ve all known and loved for years come to an end. Many of us don’t want it to end, but as fans we all know we have to know what the end of the Skywalker saga will be. Many tears will be shed during the last rolling credits, but it is necessary. 

December of 2019 will be the time known in the Star Wars history books that every Star Wars fan happily got their hearts broken to see this epic finale. I, Tim “Gold Leader” Keegan, will definitely be there on that day. Till then, May the Force be with you all.
