The Spirit Of Haddonfield (Review)

We return to the place where it all started Haddonfield, Illinois.

Rene Rivas & The Shape

The spirit of Haddonfield isn’t your typical fan-film. Rene Rivas seems to follow his own set of rules in this one, but it works. From the Halloween backdrop, to the Special Effects. Rivas knows what he is doing on paper and on camera.

Vincente DiSanti  (Never Hike Alone) as the shape, gives us the same creepy vibe as Nick castle. The authenticity DiSanti gives to the shape is on par with the original, from the slow walk to the peering in Windows is as creepy now as it was in 1978.

From the very beginning I was hooked. The beautifully shot opening, showcasing Halloween as the backdrop, gave me the same feeling as Halloween (1978). And very rarely does a fan film do that.

The homages to the ones that came before it are a nice touch. The trailer had the same opening music from H20, and that brought me back. The closet scene where Hannah is hiding from the shape, was so masterfully shot and the lighting was so phenomenal that I thought I was watching Jamie Lee Curtis fight off Myers.

The spirit of Haddonfield is definitely not just fan film. It’s a showcase, to prove that fans can make a film that lives up to the originals. I will return to watch The spirit of Haddonfield every Halloween, as I do with the originals. I for one can not wait to see what’s next from the brilliant mind of Rene Rivas as well as Vincente DiSanti.
